How was the Memphis GLBT Chamber formed?

The Memphis GLBT Chamber of Commerce was founded by Rick Johns and Jeff Childress, who are both business owners in Memphis. We are an Affiliate Chapter of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, based in Washington, D.C.

What is meant by GLBT owned and friendly businesses?

The Memphis GLBT Chamber of Commerce is comprised of not only GLBT business owners and professionals but also those that are GLBT friendly as well - together our spending makes a significant impact in the Memphis economic sector - we need to reward our fellow members through our expenditures.

What is the Mission of the Memphis GLBT Chamber?

OUR MISSION is to ADVANCE the various interests of GLBT owned and friendly businesses and professionals for the purpose of promoting economic growth and prosperity of its members.

Why NGLCC?

In 2006, the Gay/Lesbian Community reached an estimated buying power of $ 641 billion, with 69% of Gay people fiercely loyal to companies with progressive work policies

What are the benefits of the NGLCC?

First and foremost is the ability of the Memphis chapter to govern locally with the back-up of resources from the National Chapter - we control our own destiny with the power of the NGLCC behind us!

Additionally, the NGLCC is America’s GLBT Chamber of Commerce and through its network of Affiliate Chambers, such as the Memphis Chapter, and the National Members, it is a total commitment to expanding economic opportunities and advancements of the GLBT business community.

Furthermore, the NGLCC is the only national not-for-profit advocacy organization specifically dedicated to expanding the economic opportunities and advancements of the GLBT business community.

Seeing new opportunities for community advocacy, specifically in the economic arena, the NGLCC was founded as the exclusive organization for certification as a GLBT-owned business enterprise.

The NGLCC is the direct link between Corporate America and GLBT businesses and entrepreneurs.

How many chapters?

There are 45 state and local GLBT Chambers and Business Organizations as well as 9 international affiliates!

Where are the closest chapters to Memphis?

Nashville and Atlanta

Where are the largest chapters?

Seattle was founded over 25 years ago and the San Diego Chapter has been meeting for over 30 years ago!

What do I have to do to join?

Your participation in joining others to impact the economic sector of the Memphis GLBT community is the first step.

Additionally, by belonging to the Memphis Chapter, you are automatically eligible to take advantage the great Affiliate benefits such as business and service discounts, special pricing on travel and lodging, conferences, and other NGLCC programs and initiatives designed to strengthen and grow their business. You will also receive an Affiliate listing in the NGLCC’s National Online Business Directory - the largest online directory of GLBT owned and friendly businesses - imagine the impact on your business!

The Memphis Chapter is beginning now to accept listings for its Members to be published on its Website. Additionally, you are eligible to be listed on the NGLCC’s National online Business Directory.

How often will the Memphis Chapter meet?

Regular “Cocktails and Networking Meetings are scheduled for the 3rd Wednesday of each month starting at 5:30 p.m. until around 8 p.m.

How do I arrange having my business spotlighted at one of the regular meetings?

How much are dues?

Currently, there are no dues for the Memphis Chapter - we are seeking your input and participation in making this a success!
